Shout out to my hubby, Jeffrey Evans, for being a badass snowboarder who rode pipe back in the day. He’s been the inspiration for my first series of novels, The Everything Series. This is a 4-book series of interconnected standalone novels that tell the story of 4 deliciously handsome snowboarders who find love in strong, sexy women.
The boards pictured here belong to Jeff and many hold sentimental value. He competed at the US Open back in 1998 (when he was in 10th grade) using the balance board inspired by Terje Haakonsen.
The Jeff Brushie dice board was the one he won the USASA Nationals with back in 1996 at Mount Snow, VT.
Back then, he worked hard to hone his craft. He became a B team rider and rode for Burton Snowboards, Volcom, and Arnette without a pro contract. In 1998 when he went to the Burton US Open team manager, Barry Dugen, said they wanted to see his performance at the Open and get him moved up to an A team rider with an actual contract. He did his run and automatically qualified for the finals. Unfortunately, he continued to ride before the finals just for more exposure. During one of the runs he landed in a rut at the bottom of the pipe and blew out his ACL. It required two reconstructive surgeries and was never the same, so that ended his career.
This coming winter I am taking him back to the pipe. He misses it and he works his ass off now to take care of his family. I want him to get back out there and ride. Here’s hoping it’s like riding a bike…
